Enzyme activity was measured when only immature brood was present, when both immature and adult brood were present, and finally when only adult brood were present (45, 62 and 87 days respectively, after gallery foundation by a single mated female). Enzymes are divided into functional groups according to the plant cell structure functioning as substrate for enzymatic hydrolysis.
